The Gendered Self-- Further commentary on the transsexual phenomenon
Chapter 8-- False Starts, Flip Flops and Regrets
In most cases, gender role transition takes a linear course. Over time the individuals involved find a way to successfully and happily achieve their stated goals. However, for some folks the process is not as smooth. Instead we can report many false starts, flip flops and regrets. This chapter looks at aspects of transition that vary from the norm. There are people who start transition only to terminate early on. There are those who complete transitions, experience their new lives negatively and decide to return to living in their assigned birth sex. Then there are people who have out and out regrets for having transitioned.
